Chemical Peel: My Before and After
What is a chemical peel?
The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) tells us that a chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun. There are three basic types of chemical peels:
- Superficial or lunchtime peel: The treatment is used to improve the appearance of mild skin discoloration and rough skin as well as to refresh the face, neck, chest or hands.
- Medium peel: The treatment is used to improve age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, freckles and moderate skin discoloration.
- Deep peel: The treatment removes moderate lines, age spots, freckles and shallow scars. The procedure is used on the face and only can be performed once.
So, how was my recent chemical peel?
Most of you have read about my recent chemical peel via Facebook. I was really scared at first because chemical peels are one of the most misunderstood spa treatments – many of us immediately think of tabloid magazine photos we’ve seen of a celebrity with red, flaking, painful looking skin. But those images are the result of old, outdated chemical peel formulas that can result in some unpleasant side effects. Today, modern chemical peel formulas are a game changer. They can smooth texture, improve the appearance of wrinkles, brighten the skin, increase firmness, and much more – without the flaking, redness or peeling that would make you want to go into hiding!
All-in-all, I’m quite pleased with the results of my chemical peel! I actually had very little peeling and the typical side effects with your normal peels. Check out my before and after! My skin is more hydrated and my pores are less visible. I recommend this cosmetic procedure to anyone looking to renew their skin. However, make sure you do your research before booking an appointment for a chemical peel. I recommend you check out Skin Technology.
