Double Take for Double Wear

By  |

It’s mid-summer now, we have settled into our routines, trips to the pool, taking the children out for ice cream and more outdoor activities in general. My summer tan, so far, has left me no less than four shades darker than my winter shade. And to add insult to injury, summer heat (especially in Texas) is close to unbearable.

I’ve had to change foundation shades twice already this summer. The heat here is sticky, so sweating is inevitable. In Summer, I need two types of foundation. I want something lightweight and breathable for day-to-day wear. I need something long lasting that won’t melt off in the heat for long days with heavy makeup. I’ve found my favorites for Summer 2017!

Lightweight and Breathable

For an everyday, fresh face look, that’s not too heavy, I use Smashbox BB Water. It is a lightweight, sheer to medium coverage foundation. I’ve found it performs best when applied with my fingers. It’s made with water technology, so it also has hydrating qualities. For more coverage I go for Smashbox BB Cream. I like to use a dense foundation brush to gently work the BB Cream in (in a swooping downward motion).

My powder foundation go-to is anything mineral. Mineral foundations are less toxic, have healing elements and, in most cases, can be mixed with a variety of carriers for a cream or liquid finish.

Long Lasting Full Coverage

Finding a long lasting full coverage foundation can get a bit tricky for me, because I have dry skin. However, I do tend to develop a little shine throughout the day, when wearing foundation an extended amount of time. My initial search was for a foundation formulated for hydration. That resulted in me being an oily mess by the end of the day.

Doublewear for the Win

After some research (aka scouring YouTube) it seemed that Estée Lauder Doublewear was all the rage, and top rated in the category of 12+ hour, full coverage foundations. I wanted to give it a try, but was leery about that because of its matte finish.

Additional (YouTube) research revealed a trick to incorporating moisture to the skin when using matte finished foundation. Oil. And since the foundation dries down matte, skip priming and add a thin layer oil after moisturizing, before applying the foundation for dry skin types.

I decided to give it a try, so I headed to the nearest Estée Lauder counter, had my color matched, and left with a sample size bottle (good for up to 10 applications). The first time I tried it I broke a cardinal rule of makeup application and wore it out to an event without testing it first. In my haste, I also forgot to apply oil first. Even though my face felt like it was cracked and peeling, the foundation looked good and performed as expected.

Since that application, I’ve worn my doublewear to festivals and other outdoor activities.

I also wore it while on vacation in the Bahamas.  Girl! When I tell you that I have sweat almost profusely while wearing Doublewear, from morning to night, blotted the sweat away and still end the night with full coverage!

If you’re looking for a long lasting foundation, with full coverage that’s long lasting, give doublewear a try. You won’t be disappointed.
