The Most Wonderful Time of the Year: The Office Holiday Party
Do you know what time of the year it is? It’s the most wonderful and agonizing time of the year for me – the company holiday party. It’s wonderful because it’s nice to see your fellow colleagues dressed in their holiday best. It’s agonizing because without a doubt, every year I wait until the last minute to determine what I will wear. Since I’m not the girly type, I have a hard time trying to dress up. So, I fret until the last hour and hit panic mode. As a matter of fact, as I am completing this article the company party is several short days away and I don’t have the slightest clue what I am wearing. And like in previous years, I tell myself that I won’t do this again – yet again here we are!!
To get an idea of what I will eventually wear, I have a routine I follow. I will start off by casually asking some of the employees if they have their outfit ready. Of course, they do!! You have the employees that started planning their outfits as soon as the last holiday party ended. (Just Kidding – or is this really a thing)? You also have that one employee that has purchased several outfits in search of the perfect one. (Can I please borrow one of the outfits that didn’t make your lineup)? Inevitably someone will ask me what I am wearing and then will be utterly shocked that I am unprepared. (Sorry, I was planning to do better this year). Unlike in previous years, this year I actually have an alternate outfit planned just in case I don’t find anything.
For those of you that don’t want to end up in a dilemma similar to mine, here are a few suggestions for putting together an outfit for the holiday party without putting a damper on your sanity and wallet.
- Invest in a few timeless pieces. The fit and flare dress is a classic with a look that can be changed with different shoes and accessories. Also, you can always count on the little black dress(LBD). It is always a go-to that will fit any occasion.
- Holiday parties don’t necessarily equal wearing a dress. Purchasing separates for a mix and match session are also an option. Unlike purchasing a dress, you may have the option of rotating your separates into your everyday wardrobe.
- When in doubt, opt for the jumpsuit. With its versatility, the jumpsuit is a practical solution for the holiday party. It can be dressed up with a statement shoe or statement jewelry.
- YOLO-holidays are about having fun. If you must have the latest trend, then go for it. Just consider the cost per wear when shopping.
What will you be wearing to your company holiday party? Do you have a go to option if your original outfit doesn’t work out? Despite my wardrobe dilemma, I expect to enjoy the party because it never fails to meet my expectations. I hope you enjoy yours too. Here’s to the upcoming parties that you will be attending – CHEERS!!
