Do you covet Chanel? Do you gush over Gucci? Are you in love with Louis Vuitton? Do you dream about Dior?  When you flip through fashion magazines, does your heart flutter? Do you wish you had an unlimited budget for a high-end wardrobe?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, you probably have a passion for fashion.  But the reality is most of us can’t fit high end fashion in our budget.  So what do you do when you’re longing for couture chic but your wallet is screaming “Girl you better settle for frugal chic!!” Well cheer up because there are several ways to satisfy your fashion craving without breaking your budget.

Off-Season Shopping

A great way to get designer brands without premium prices is to shop in the off season.  Off-season shopping can be an amazing opportunity to collect some staple pieces for your wardrobe.  Another reason to consider off-season shopping is most reduction sales happen as the season ends.  During the end of the season, name brand clothes may be down to a fourth of their regular price.

Shopping Other Collections

Many high end designers have brands under their name that include capsule collections, bridge lines, and lower cost brands.

  • Capsule Collections – Capsule collections became popular in the 1980s by Donna Karan. These collections include a few staple pieces that showcase a designer’s signature style.  You’re able to get staple pieces at an affordable price due to mass manufacturing.  Although the economies of scale result in affordable prices, capsule collections typically available for a limited time.
  • Bridge Lines – This refers to a collaboration between a high end designer and a lower-priced retailer.  The designer will typically develop a collection of pieces to be manufactured by  lower-priced retailer.  Although the pieces are affordable, they are only available as a small collection.  You have to be quick on the draw, or you could miss out on a fashion opportunity
  • Lower Cost Brands – This is a representation of brand names that resemble certain high end designers, but aren’t quite the same.  They are lower-cost versions of the main brand.  With these lower cost versions, you can get the prestige of the high end designer without the high-end costs. Many times the lower cost brands are trendier items, but you still get to own something from a high end designer.

High end fashion doesn’t come cheap, but that doesn’t mean it’s off limits to the frugal chic budget. You may ask, “Why would I want to spend my hard earned money on high end fashion?”  There are several reasons to consider purchasing high end fashion.  They include:

  • Better quality of the product
  • Image/status projection
  • High resale value

The trick to purchasing high end fashion is to know how and when to scope out the best deals.

There is something to be said about having high end designs drape your frame.  Not only does it put a pep in your step, but there is a sense of authority with every step you take.  Looking like a million bucks does wonders for the ego.  However, there is no need to go spending a million bucks for the high end fashion you desire.  With a little savvy shopping, your high end fashion fantasy can become a reality.
